Find a product with the RFID reader
Follow the reader signal to a product using Beam Mobile search, with a wide scan or a deep scan focused on one tag.
If a product is not where it belongs, use the reader to find it. The app turns signal strength into guidance: warmer or colder, until you have it in your hand.
Before you begin
- The product is tracked as Unique (RFID) and therefore has EPC labels.
- An RFID reader is paired and online.
Start searching
- Open the product and choose Find in store (RFID wide-scan). From the scan page, choose Locate item; from an EPC, choose Locate tag.
- Choose the search mode:
- Wide scan reads all tags for this product and shows which you are approaching;
- Deep scan focuses the reader on one specific tag: In this mode, a hardware filter is applied so the scanner reads only this specific tag.
- Pull the trigger (Pull the trigger to search) and walk slowly through the area.
Read the guidance
| Status | What to do |
|---|---|
| Far away or Very far — keep moving | Try another aisle. |
| Right direction | Keep walking this way. |
| Warmer… | You are getting closer. Turn the reader slowly. |
| Very close | Look at eye level and inside the bin. |
| Found | The tag is within reach. |
Tags in the list are labelled New, Seen and In stock. Next tag moves to the next unit of the same product; Reset seen tags starts again.
Sound
At the top, choose All sounds on, Found sound only or Sound off. In a quiet store, Found sound only is usually the most comfortable option.
Tip. If you are picking up too many neighbouring tags, reduce the reader power or choose Deep scan.
