Planning: distribute work and compare a proposal

Choose the planning scope, review blockers, balance workloads and compare a scenario with the current plan. In this version, planning creates a proposal; it does not execute it.

Planning helps a team leader distribute open work across people and routes. The app calculates a proposal and compares it with the current situation. In this version, it does not apply the proposal itself; you review it as a draft.

Proposal only. The app states: Draft only — operational application is not yet available. Assign the work manually afterwards in Tasks.

Before you begin

  • You need planning permissions; otherwise Planning is not shown in the menu.
  • The location needs a walking route to calculate distances.

Choose the scope

Open Planning scope and choose:

  • the mode: Balanced, Quick review or Simulate staffing;
  • the time window: Current shift, Today or Next 7 days;
  • the Work locations to include.

The app calculates the plan (Calculating warehouse plan…, Loading orders 12/40, Calculating routes 8/40) and shows tiles for Open orders, Issues, Complete routes, Busiest employee and Unassigned orders.

Three steps

  1. Step 1 · Reliability: Review blockers. Issues are grouped under Route and inventory reliability (such as Missing physical stock and Work without a floor-plan location), Operational attention (such as Orders past their delivery date) and Scenario and calculation.
  2. Step 2 · Work distribution: Balance workload. Review the proposed work for each employee and adjust it.
  3. Step 3 · Review proposal: Compare proposal. The table compares Current with Scenario for Distance, Walking, Picking, Total, Team finish time, Workload difference and Orders at risk.

Calculate waves

Calculate waves groups picks into rounds with carrier loading and routes. It carries the Simulation only badge: Nothing is being applied operationally yet. If a product has no units-per-carrier value, the app reports tasks blocked: enter units per carrier on the product. Set the default carrier under Default planning carrier (type, maximum height and weight).

On a phone

On a phone, Planning shows My work: orders assigned to you. If there are none, it shows No orders assigned to you.
