Claim, start and complete tasks

Filter the task list, pick up or hand over work, create a task and start a batch that requires a carrier.

Updated 2 min read

Tasks lists open work at your work location: picks, batches, receipts, put-away, counts and checks. Every task has one owner and one status, so work is not duplicated or done without a record.

The overview

Filter by type (All, Batches, Orders, Inventory, Checks, Other) and owner (All, Mine, Unassigned). A task has the status Open, Assigned, In progress, Completed or Cancelled, and the priority Low, Normal, High or Urgent.

Work received as a group, such as a pick batch from an integration, also appears here. The list refreshes live; if the live connection is lost, it shows Live updates are off — pull down to refresh.

Pick up a task

ActionWhen to use it
ClaimThe task is unassigned and you take it on.
StartYou begin the work; its status changes to In progress.
Take overThe task belongs to a colleague and you take it over.
ReleaseYou give up the task without completing it.
Assign or Hand overYou assign the task to a colleague.
CompleteThe work is done. Put-away and movement tasks can only be completed once the stock has actually been processed.
Cancel taskThe task is no longer relevant. The app confirms: The task will be marked as cancelled and removed from the open work list.

Beam compares the task with the activity log. If the work appears to be done, it suggests Complete · appears finished; if the target has changed, it suggests Cancel task · appears outdated.

Start a batch

A pick batch may require a carrier. On starting, the app asks you to Scan the box (box code) or Scan the pallet (pallet EPC). An invalid or non-empty pallet is rejected; see containers.

Create a task

  1. Choose Create task.
  2. Answer What needs to happen?: Pick, Receive, Count, Move, Replenish, Check or Something else.
  3. Choose the target: an order, order line, stock position, location or product.
  4. Check the title, assignee and timing, then confirm with Create task.

To assign several tasks at once, select them in the list and choose Assign 5 tasks. The app reports the result: 4 assigned, 1 failed.
