Connect an RFID reader through Bluetooth

Beam Mobile works with wireless Chainway readers over Bluetooth and with the Chainway C72, an Android handheld with a built-in RFID reader. The C72 needs no pairing: the app uses its built-in reader directly. For a separate reader, follow the steps below.

Before you start

• Turn on the reader and keep it close to your device.
• Allow Bluetooth access when the app asks. Without permission, it says Bluetooth permissions are required to scan for devices.

Important on iOS. Do not pair the reader through iOS Bluetooth settings. It behaves as a keyboard there, causing the on-screen keyboard to disappear. Connect through the app instead.

Add the reader

1. Open Devices from the settings menu and tap Get started or the plus button.
2. Select Bluetooth under Connection type.
3. Choose RFID reader. The app searches for nearby readers and shows each reader’s signal strength: Strong signal, Good signal or Weak signal.
4. Tap the reader (Tap to connect).
5. Choose the Reader type:
   • Desktop R3S, for Checkout and showcase at a fixed position;
   • Handheld R7, for Mobile scanning on the floor.
6. Enter a Reader name and tap Save reader.

The reader now appears under Local in Devices, with ONLINE or OFFLINE status.

Reconnect

Tap the reader in Devices. Device status shows Connection and diagnostics with Connect or Reconnect. From the same panel, open Scan settings (power, RF mode, session, antennas) or Edit device.

The app activates only one RFID reader at a time. If you select another reader, the previous one is disabled first.

Remove a reader

Choose Remove device. The app asks: Are you sure you want to remove “name”? You will need to scan and connect again to use it. You can undo the action immediately after removal.
