Containers and pallets

Create, fill, move and empty a pallet, roll cage or box with its own EPC, and print its label.

A container is a pallet, roll cage or box with its own EPC. Beam knows what it holds, so you can move the carrier and its contents in one action while retaining an exact record of the contents.

The container list

Containers shows Pallets and carriers at this location. The list is limited to your working location.

Create a container

  1. Choose Create container (Pallet, roll cage or box with its own EPC).
  2. Choose a type and enter a name. An administrator defines container types in company settings.
  3. Scan or generate the EPC and save.
  4. Use Print label to print its label on a connected printer. Without a printer, the app says No label printer connected.

Add contents

In the container details, choose Add stock. You can scan specific unique units or claim a quantity of a product tracked by quantity. During receiving and putaway, you can fill a pallet directly within that workflow.

Move everything together

Choose Move and the destination location. The container and all its contents move together. During a large move, the detail screen shows This container is being moved; actions are temporarily disabled. An interrupted move can be resumed.

Detach and disband

  • Detach removes one unit or quantity from the container; the stock stays at its current location.
  • Disband empties the container in one action: All serialized units and stock claims are detached in one operation. No stock is lost; everything remains at the container’s location.

Pallets when picking

An administrator can require a pallet scan for batch picking (Pallet scan before batch picking). When you start such a batch, the app asks you to Scan the pallet or Scan the box. A pallet that already contains stock is rejected: Pallet is not empty.
