The Kathrein WRA 3070 is a UHF RFID antenna, not a standalone scanner. It always needs an RFID reader connected to it to work: either the Impinj R700 or the Brady FR22. This antenna handles radio communication with RFID tags; the reader does the actual processing. IP67-rated for outdoor and harsh environments, 12 dBic gain, up to 20m read range. Ideal for gate setups, dock doors and industrial RFID installations.

The Kathrein WRA 3070 is the antenna in your RFID setup. It communicates with RFID tags by transmitting and receiving radio signals. Does this antenna work on its own?

No. The Kathrein WRA 3070 is an antenna only. It cannot read RFID tags by itself. You always need a separate RFID reader connected to it. In the Beam ecosystem this is either the Impinj R700 (supports up to 4 antennas) or the Brady FR22. The reader is sold separately and is not included with this antenna.

Is the antenna suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. The WRA 3070 is IP67-rated, meaning it is fully dust-tight and protected against temporary water immersion. The UV-resistant housing ensures long-term outdoor durability.

What is the difference between this and the A1000 antenna?

The Kathrein WRA 3070 offers higher gain (12 dBic vs 6 dBic), better IP protection (IP67 vs IP65) and is designed for larger, more demanding setups like RFID gates and dock doors with up to 20m read range. The A1000 is a more budget-friendly option for smaller or dense antenna deployments.

How many antennas do I need for an RFID gate?

A typical RFID gate uses 2-4 antennas depending on the width and required read accuracy. For a standard doorway, two antennas (one on each side) often suffice. Contact us for advice on your specific setup.

Does a cable come included with the antenna?

No, the SMA cable is not included as cable length depends on your installation. We can advise on the right cable type and length for your setup to minimize signal loss.

A reader’s ability to connect does not prove that every tag can be read reliably in every environment. That is why hardware, tags, products, read zones, volumes and exceptions are tested together before any performance commitment becomes part of the scope.
