To measure is to know. A proverb that is also increasingly popular in the bulb sector. That became clear at a busy Flower Science Café near Via Roma in Hillegom on Thursday, October 11, about digital innovations and technological developments in the flower bulb sector.

More than ninety attendees listened to various speakers about ways to collect and use data. For example, Robert Kraayvanger said of Beacon Fields about the sensors that measure light, humidity and temperature in the field, among other things. The data appears quickly on the computer or mobile phone, so that a grower no longer has to physically drive to the field. Representatives of 30MHz showed how collected data is made visible as needed. Beam Tracking explained how parties with flower bulbs are monitored and managed using so-called RFID technology. Van der Slot Transport talked about the use of tracking and tracing in the transport world.

The various speakers pointed out that it is possible to work more efficiently, qualitatively and at lower costs when using big data. They also saw industry organizations playing a role in setting a standard. All parties in the chain must start using the same names so that data can be collected and possibly shared more easily.

The host company Via Roma took the participants on a tour of the company in five groups. There was an animated chat and several business cards were exchanged. If you would like to continue talking about one of the topics, please contact us via info@flowerscience.nl.
